Hard Reset

How to do a HARD reset on the AT&T Tilt/Kaiser:

A hard reset is the equivalent of a “factory reset” and all functions/data will return to the status after your last rom flash (or the factory settings if you have not updated the rom). Again, doing a hard reset will erase all your software, contacts, data and anything else that has been added to the phone since the last rom flash.

However, there are situations where the phone is unusable. In such a case, it is better to restore the factory settings than trying to use the phone with the errors.

When one is flashing a new rom, the hard reset is your friend. Doing one (or more) hard resets at critical points in the flashing process will prevent some severe problems after flashing newer roms. For more info about the flashing process check [cref 4 this article].

HOW TO HARD RESET: Hold both soft keys (the keys with “-” printed on them) and insert the stylus for a second. Then release the stylus but continue holding the soft keys until a white screen appears. This is pretty difficult to accomplish but just keep trying until it works. If the device reboots, then you did NOT do it correctly – just keep trying.

The white screen contains the following text:

This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. Press Send to restore manufacturer default, or press other keys to cancel.

At that point, press the Send (green) key to complete the reset or press any other key to cancel. If you do complete the hard reset, it will only take about a minute then the screen ask you to press the Send key again to reboot the device and begin the setup operation.
