I have completely borked my gtab. I had JB from DRH installed and wasn’t happy about it. I blithely went and ran NVFlash according to the directions that I’ve used before (via Robeet). System got caught in a boot loop and when I used pwr & +Vol got the dreaded exclamation point in the Triangle of Doom! Rebooted to APX, ran NVFlash again and now can’t power up. Can’t get into APX or anything. Yes, it’s plugged in and I can hear the Viewsonic people laughing at me now.

Help me Obi-Ray Kenobi, you’re my only hope…

I have a rooted nook tablet 8gb, that after installing veency become stuck on the restore “box” screen. Can you please advise me on how to fix it, I do not have a back up, and also I should metion the restore is stuck but flickers, any direction you can give me would be appreciated.

This is the wrong section for nt8 questions. To fix your nook, try our “unbrick” guide. I don’t have the link handy but you can use our search to find it.

Could I mail my gtab to you for you to fix/upgrade it? I just can’t seem to do it.

    Hi Ray,

I’m still waiting for your reply on my Sept. 3rd question above.

    Thanks, Mark

I’m back. This is were I left off last time. I’ve successfully installed NVFlash and can always reboot my gtab using it, but when installing CWM I get to step 6 and the gtab fails to reboot when I power down and hold the power button and vol + button at the same time. The small letters do not appear in the top-hand corner of the gtab screen.

I also tried copying the update.zip file to an external micro SD card after it was formatted to FAT 32. I got the same error with that also. This process does not seem to work on the updated G-Tabs.

Is there anything else I can try?

    Hello:

I am new to this forum and need some help. I just got the Viewsonic G-Tab and found it had version 1.2 of the firmware. I followed your instructions to downgrade the version to 1.1. It would not work. In the recovery mode it keeps giving errors saying that the SD drive cannot be mounted and that it cannot find the update.zip file. (Even though it is there in the root directory)

I have tried everything and cannot get this to work. The Cyanogen wiki does not say anything about having to downgrade the 1.2 ROM. Is this really necessary?

Do you have any idea on what I am doing wrong? Is there something in the later versions of the bootloader that are preventing this to be downgraded?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I don’t want to brick this thing.

Also – many of your navigation tabs on your website go to empty pages giving 404 (page cannot be found) errors. I’m not sure if you are aware of this.

I appreciate any and all advice.

It is “possible” that some newer version of the GTab or firmware could be an issue but I doubt it. This site serves over 300 unique visitors each day and the VAST MAJORITY are quite satisfied with the results they get when following our guides. A few have problems and we generally fix those.
The CM7 Wiki is not updated as frequently as this site. That is why WE discuss the 1.1 vs. 1.2 issues (in depth) and they do not. CM7 is a GREAT ROM and the devs who maintain it are amazing. But this site does a better job (IMHO) of keeping up with the installation issues.
You are welcome to check the Wiki and see if there is any other help available. We do what we can to help users but you may find that others do a better job. Did you register on this site? I ask everyone to please register.
Since you asked the same questions on three different pages, I will refer you to the “When Things Go Wrong” (WTGW) page for my answers your problem.

  8. Hi Bishop:
I am seeking godly counsel for my gtab. I carefully followed your instructions, downgraded to 1.1, etc. Thought all was well. Then when I had completed the last step… bricked! It is stuck in a boot loop with the 3 birds. ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.1-bekit-0.8 is working fine. I can mount and connect via USB. I have tried so many different suggestions but alas… I have a brick… LOL. It does make a good flashlight, albeit a bit awkward. I seek wisdom. If you know any more steps please advise me. From the functioning ClockworkMod I have….
    Partitioned the SDcard 2048 0.
Fix permissions (tried with and without this)
Wipe Davik Cache (with and without this)
    wipe data/factory reset
    wipe cache partition
I have tried the update-cm-7.03-Harmony-signed.zip with and without the GAPPS and vold.fstab.zip
I have done the wipes and tried the VEGAn-GE-7.0.0-RC1-Harmony-signed.zip

Every task seems to complete. There are no errors.
However, they all produce the same boot loop with the 3 birds.
    Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Pastor Mark

Hey Mark! Your request sounds like a “prayer” for divine intervention! 😉
I have already provided all the answers that I know – in the “When things go wrong” article. If you have done all of those things, then you probably just need to start over entirely.
I would suggest that you start out (again) assuming that you have the 1.2 bootloader and that your previous downgrade somehow failed & you bricked because of that. Visit the article about downgrading from 1.2 to 1.1 and start there. It will take a while but it is almost certain to work.

Hey Rick – glad you stopped by. I did look at your website. It is pretty difficult for me to make any suggestions about the particular site because I do not know what options are available to you on the hosting service that you use. Since it is a FREE hosting service, I assume that you are severely limited in what you can do to make your site more attractive. When you compare my different sites, you can see that, although I use the same software (WordPress) for all sites, they have a totally different look and feel. The WP software has almost unlimited possibilities for creating a unique site. I have a series of articles on this site that may help you. Start with this one: https://bishoptec.com/2009/10/free-web-hosting/
Send me a private message (or call) and I can help you even more with this.

Hi Ray. It’s me again. I wonder if the Bishop of Tecnology could take a look at my website for the church (lebleulighthouse.com) and offer any suggestions you might have that would help improve it. It’s kinda “bland” to me. I used a free site to make it, but I know there has to be a lot of things I can do to make it more functional and appealing.
    Thanks my brother,
    Rick

Hey Dr.! Thanks for coming by!

The title is a bit unusual. The Admin Bishop gave me that title at my retirement ceremony. My self-styled title is Bishop of Technological Ministries! How do you like that one?

My real purpose in life (other than being a man of God) is to make technology ACCESSIBLE to the common person. I am developing some online & real-life seminars for how to create a real working web presence. During the next week or two, Rob and I will be creating a new web site for the State Offices. I have one other church that wants me to help them do the same.

Now that I am retired, I can do some good stuff for no cost or minimal cost to the church or an individual.

What can I do to help you?

  12. Hello My Brother,

What exactly does the “Technology Evangelist” do?
