The Father’s Day deals are even better than they were leading up to Mother’s Day, with the Nook HD at $129 and the Nook HD+ at $149. Click here to visit the B&N site. More from the CNet “Cheapskate.”

The sale has been extended. I saw them in B&N and was quite impressed. Wasn’t previously aware that at least on the HD and HD+ models, you can download and install the Google Play Store from within the B&N app store. IOW, all the android apps are accessible without hacking. My old Nook Color still works find (it is running Android from a micro sd card) but the new ones were hard to resist. Might have to go back.
My wife wanted a larger tablet (we each had a Nexus 7) so I bought her the HD+ for Father’s day. 🙂
It is pretty nice but even with the Play Store, it is still “dumb.” So I rooted it and installed Jelly Bean 4.2.2 which is much better.
I plan to write a review and rooting guide. It is easy to root but the Gallery will not sync with Picasaweb (Google made that change). Also it doesn’t have a GPS or a camera. The screen resolution is good but nothing like my Samsung S4 phone. (Review of that is also in the works.)
